The Four Most Common Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

Updated: Dec 7, 2022

Cosmetic Dentistry

The statistics show that 84 percent of Canadians have great oral health.

If you are looking to make your smile even more beautiful, cosmetic dentistry procedures may be the answer. Cosmetic dentists offer several procedures that can help improve the appearance of your smile.

There are many different types of procedures available; let's look at some of the most common ones available at Harborn Dental.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic dentistry because they make tooth colour, size, and shape more uniform. Veneers are also easy to apply and can last for many years.

The installation of porcelain veneers can take anywhere from two to four sessions. However, session times may vary depending on the dentist and the status of your dentition.

The first session will include planning and taking molds of the mouth.

Teeth are prepared, another mold taken, and a temporary set of veneers is then applied at the second session. These will be used as a model to design the final veneers.

The third and final session is one where the dentist removes the temporary veneers and applies the new set of porcelain veneers onto existing teeth with adhesive cement.

Zoom! Whitening

Zoom! Whitening is a teeth-whitening system that has been available since 2002. It works by using a peroxide gel with hydrogen peroxide to break down the stains in your teeth and make them whiter.

Zoom! Whitening doesn't require any harsh chemicals or treatments, and you can typically whiten your teeth by up to ten shades in only one sitting. It is a fast, safe and effective way to do teeth whitening.

Composite Fillings (Bonding)

Composite fillings are a tooth re-surfacing method that is used to fix cracks, chips, and teeth stains. The good thing about composite fillings is that they can replace just the decayed part of the tooth instead of the whole tooth.

Composite fillings are also very strong and durable because they bond directly to the tooth. No drilling, cutting, or grinding is necessary when receiving composite fillings.

Gum Grafting

Gum graft surgery can be used to treat gum recession, black triangles, and papillary lesions. Gum grafts are an excellent form of dental restoration that restores full function to the affected area. Areas of the gum may be affected by disease or injury.

The graft can either be taken from behind an existing tooth or other donor sources. Gum graft surgery usually requires only local anesthesia and takes 1-4 hours to complete.
