A healthy, bright, beautiful smile can enhance your appearance, giving your confidence a boost. Thanks to the advances in modern cosmetic dentistry, today it is possible to improve smiles with quick, painless, and surprisingly affordable treatments. Teeth whitening is one such procedure that helps treat stained or discoloured teeth. No matter what the source or cause of discolouration, effective teeth whitening can safely, and effectively make your teeth many shades lighter.
At Harborn Dental Centre, we offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening services. If you are looking for teeth whitening in Mississauga, our dentists can help you get fast and visible results.
A pearly-white smile is beautiful to look at and can greatly improve self-confidence. Zoom!® Whitening is a bleaching technique that combines the newest advances in dental technology with proven chemical formulas to give satisfying results. Unlike many other whitening treatments available in the market, Zoom!® Whitening elicits desired and rapid results. Harborn Dental Centre offers Zoom!® Chairside Whitening System. With this technique, you can achieve a smile that is 8 shades brighter within roughly 90 minutes.
Zoom!® is a bleaching process that lightens the dentin and enamel of the teeth. Zoom!® contains a hydrogen peroxide component (25%), which is the active ingredient in the gel. When hydrogen peroxide is applied to the teeth and activated, the peroxide component breaks down into tiny oxygen bubbles. It is these bubbles that eliminate yellowing and staining.
A mercury metal halide light is used to activate the gel and expedite the whitening process. This specialized light contains a unique infrared filter that works to reduce the amount of heat (and therefore sensitivity) on the surface of the teeth during the procedure. The internal structure of the teeth remains completely healthy and intact during and after the treatment.
At your first consultation for teeth whitening at Harborn Dental Centre, our dentists will conduct a thorough evaluation of your dental and oral health. Zoom!® is only applied to healthy teeth and gums. If tooth decay or gum disease is an issue, these need to be controlled before the bleaching treatment is performed.
If found suitable for Zoom!® Whitening, you will need to undergo teeth cleaning before the actual procedure. After that, your lips and gums will be covered while your teeth will remain exposed. The Zoom!® hydrogen peroxide whitening gel will then be applied and Zoom!® light will be activated for three 15-minute sessions each. The process is mostly painless but some patients experience a slight tingling sensation due to teeth sensitivity.
As with any whitening system, the post-treatment results can vary according to the degree of staining and the condition of the teeth. After the process, our dentists will inform you about the aftercare. Following the instruction will help you maintain the whitening effects for longer.
With our at-home teeth whitening services in Mississauga, residents can whiten their teeth while at home. It usually requires two visits. At the first appointment, we will create a mould of your teeth with which we will custom-fabricate clear plastic trays. On your second visit, you will try on the trays to check if they offer a proper fit. If not, we will make the necessary adjustments before handing them over to you.
The trays need to be worn with a special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the level of staining and your desired level of whiteness. Tooth sensitivity is normal during the time you are whitening your teeth, and it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.
Tooth whitening only works on natural enamel and not on implants or false teeth, so it is vital to book a consultation to evaluate the replacement of any old fillings or crowns that you might have. Any replacements that are needed will be done after the bleaching so that they can match the colour of your newly whitened teeth. As tooth whitening is not a permanent procedure, a touch-up may be needed every few years or so, more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.
