Composite Fillings (Bounding)

If you have a decaying tooth, that may have cracks or fractures, or is chipped,  a composite (tooth coloured) filling may be the best solution for you. We remove the decayed or affected portion of the tooth during this process and replace it with a composite filling.

Several types of materials are used as fillers in the composite filling process. Each material has its advantages and disadvantages. Your dentist will discuss the various options with you and choose a material right for you after thoroughly analyzing your teeth. Silver amalgam is the most widely used material, along with the composite filling. Composite fillings come in a variety of shades and can be closely matched to the colour of your natural teeth. For this reason, they are used in the visible areas of the mouth, like the front teeth.

Composite fillings are durable and last for many years, but they might wear off after a certain period. You can get them replaced when needed.

How Are Composite Fillings Placed?

Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment. While the tooth is numb, our dentist will remove decay as needed. The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.

It is normal to experience sensitivity to hot and cold food or beverages when composite fillings are first placed. However, this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling.

You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the longevity of your new fillings.

Gum Grafting

Gum recession means exposure of tooth roots. Gum graft surgery is done to repair the recession of your gums. It also helps in preventing additional gum and bone loss.

Your dentist will use gum grafts to cover tooth roots or develop gum tissue wherever required. The dentist will take gum tissue from your palate or another source to protect the exposed tooth root during gum graft surgery. This surgery can be performed for one tooth or several teeth to even out your gum line and reduce sensitivity.

Further recession and bone loss can also be prevented with the help of a gum graft. In some cases, gum grafts are used to cover exposed roots and protect them from decay. This helps in reducing sensitivity and improves the esthetic of your smile. So, with the help of a gum graft, you often receive the benefits of both: a beautiful new smile and improved gingival health. Good gum health is your key to smiling, eating, and speaking with comfort and confidence.

Our dentists will ensure that they give you the best treatment available. Call us to make an appointment.
